UT in Japan (by Yumi Sato)

Today,I went to UT's gig at shibuya club quattro. I had good numbered ticket and I could go to a place very near from stage. I could see Andy's expression. When gig began , stupid foreigner (he spoke in english) called loudly,"Hei Thom-York!!!!!" He called so twice. Andy didn't smile and didn't say anything. He said very little words during this gig.'thank you''good night' and at encore 'I don't have such many song' I think he got hurt by rude audiences ( many girls took his pictures.It's illegal of course) I'm sorry , they aren't majority,but conspicuous.

Well, I got today's set list.

----Osaka, Club Quattro, 25/09/98---

I think This is too late but I'll just fill you on some of the bits about Japan gigs. But First I have to say Please forgive my English. I hope you will understand it. and If this was boring, sorry...

-Osaka, Club Quattro, 25/09/98- This day was my first gig of UT and I was so exited as I can see them at last ! The venue opened at 6:00pm. We had good numbered tickets, so We could get a good place- on the Jason side at the front. We wait about one hour when suddenly the lights go off and a Hugo Largo song start. When This song, The lighting was so fantastic. Its close to ending the song and the member appeared on the stage.Andy was smiling. They opened with Forget about me. That was great. I can't remember the set after the opening song but This day They played

following songs I think (the order of the songs is not correct) - Forget about me / settle down /solved / Ciao my shining star / who's to know / Same mistakes / stone / landslide /From this height /higher than reason/

building/ Tyre Tracks / Finest little space /Be ready / Shed your skin /

almost here -thay played about one hour.

This day There was many highlights. Every songs were really great. But Especially, Landslide(Nigel's drums was powerfull and cool), Ciao shining star(Andy's high tone voice is really beautifull) and Settle down were very impressive for me.

When They played almost here(just NIgel on Keybord and Andy on vocals no

guitar), Suddenly one audience's portable phone was ring. At first Everybody noticed it but we ignored it. but It was ring some times, so We coudn't stand it and at last We had laugh.Andy,too. (He had been a little smile druing ring)

The member seemed in a good mood - smiling , a little joking and talking.(before a song, Nigel said one Japanese- It's Arigatou=Thank you. It was good!) and also Audience, too. This day's venue was small(about 500). and unfortunally it wasn't full but the show was held in a friendly atmosphere. I felt like that.

Anyway The gig was really great and I tought They ware amazing I was so moved.

After show, They had a time to meet fans. So we could take their photos or get sing. and I asked Jason that Did you enjoy tonight ? He said like that we enjoyed very much at lovely smile. He was so cute. and also Nigel and Andy was really kind and friendly person. But I can't speak English well and I couldn't speak very much. I am a stupid Japanese girl...

-Nagoya, Club Quattro, 26/09/98- The venue was not full as same as in Osaka. I think That was more bad than Osaka. But We didn't surprise about that situation.. Cos Almost the show in Nagoya is like that.

This day was almost the same set as Osaka There was a bit of a problem when the Forget about me -it was opening. the mixing seemed not in good condition and Andy's guitar didn't sound. So During a little time, He did sing without a guitar. and The gig in Nagoya was also great. but After show, David said like that They are tired today and couldn't best play.and also Andy said same things to my friend. But We were enjoy very much and We didn't feel like that. Although They were tired, They had a time for us after show as Osaka. I though They are lovely person who care about fans of them.

-Tokyo, Club Quattro 28/09/98- I think a Japanese fan already told you most of the stuff on Spanish site but I 'll just tell you about some other things. The tickets of this gig was sold out and The venue was full. We were waiting one hour with talking and drinking. and It was about 7:15pm I think. a Hugo largo song start . When they appeared on the stage, Many people shouted They had lovely smiles. This day They had change opening song. It was Higher than reason. This song is well known and one of the most popular among Japanese fans. So Everybody seemed happy hearing it in opening. They seemed enjoy the gig very much. They seemed relax . When Nigel stayed at keybord, Andy turned to him and he took his photo. and also During the gig, their stuff and their maneger took the stage photos many times from the floor. In Japan We can't a photo in the venue. So Whenever The flashlight was flash, The security person had react to the flash and They looked around the floor. It was so funny.

The setlist was as follows- higher than reason(This is one of my favourite song off the album. Especially I love Jason's base part ) settle down ciao my shining star(There was fist mc of Andy. But I couldn't understand...) building(Andy says This one's called Building-My friend was exited.) who's to know landslide(That was most emotional song at live I thought. It was really cool) be ready(before this song, Andy had introduce Jim to us- Jim also was great player) tyre tracks stone same mistakes finest little space solved(Andy said Thanks listening tonight and They left to the stage) -encore 1- shed your skin(Andy says This is new one. When Just the song start, one girls fan shouted to andy In Japanese that Please look at me and They couldn't start to play the song.But Andy smiled. This was so beautiful. Nigel's keybord solo was fragile and beautiful) forget about me -encore 2- from this height(After this song Jason and Jim left to the stage at lovely smile) almost here

Anyway, Everything was wonderful and I thought again that They are amazing. Their music is brilliant. Their live performance made me feel happy. I would liek to say Thank you for coming to Japan and great shows.
