Bio
Heirs to the tradition of pluperfect pop cultivated in the British Isles
(specifically Weller, Style Council and family) and bringing together the
choicest elements of the Granada rock scene (members of classic bands like
The Exiles or the eternal 091, mavericks like Sin Perdón, the avant-garde
Cecilia Ann or the definitively extinct Líbidos), Sugarfish present
their first ep (released by the pop offshoot of Wild Punk Records) which,
rather than a debut, has the maturity and depth of a second or third album.
Lucid, effective, incisive and brimming with flawless melodies, but not
skimping on guitars (there are plenty of them and they sound perfect),
"Doubleplusgood" is a work of elegance which takes in all the most fundamental
points of reference, free from pretensions, and with the sole ambition
of writing fine songs. A work which moves from raptures of candid rock
("When the Shooting Starts" or the fabulous "Whole World on Fire" in my
opinion the best track on the record) to delicious moments of melodic pop
("Drive it Home") and which also has the allure of intelligent lyrics in
English, thanks to native-speaker David Prichard, which distance the band
from the usual inanity of those who sing in English without understanding
the language. A marvellous recital of classic pop, Sugarfish is one of
the most lucid propositions to come out of the over-populated Granada scene
in a long time. The LP soon, please.

DOUBLEPLUSGOOD. It's taken over three years to give shape to this
group made up of some of the most representative members of the new Granada
rock scene. From the moment when Pablo Román (bassist in Cecilia
Ann), Daniel Díaz (ex-Sin Perdón) and Víctor Lapido
(ex-901) began playing together until the arrival of the two latest additions,
Antonio Lomas (Los Líbidos) and David Prichard (The Exiles), there
was a necessary period of composition, rehearsal and reflection about the
band's definitive sound. Their intention from the very beginning has been
to create a sound close to melodic pop, yet broken by hard, fibrous guitars.
David's warm voice is reminiscient at times of The Who or Paul Weller as
a solo artist, also seeking out references in the latest American rock.
Doubleplusgood. is the band's first offering. This maxisingle with five
excellent tracks is a vibrant compendium of pop songs, a record which brings
together exploration of rock sounds and the most classic concept of power
pop. Accomplished texts in English written with poetry and sarcasm complete
the definition of the group's style. Without any doubt, one of the year's
major eye-openers, and one of Andalucia's most impressive and powerful
live acts.
SUGARFISH with Ocean Colour Scene Víctor García Lapido's
new band, Sugarfish, opened for Ocean Colour Scene
in Granada on February 16. their first cd-ep is called ""Doubleplusgood"
(Wild Punk Records), with five tracks charged with melodic energy. The
band's line-up is Víctor García Lapido, guitar, Pablo (bassist
in
Cecilia Ann) on guitar, Dani (ex-Sin
Perdón) on bass, Antonio (Líbidos) on drums and David,
voice.the record has been released by Novi (PPM)
on his WPR label, true to their philosophy of supporting new bands. The
cover has been designed by Estrella Román, guitarrist in Cecilia
Ann. Víctor began his career with Los Ruidos along with Jacinto
Ríos, before joining
091 during their
last stage and he has formed part of the band which toured ith José
Ignacio Lapido promoting his latest record "Ladridos del Perro Mágico"
