RADIOHEAD SCOOP THE POOL AT IVORS

RADIOHEAD triumphed in the categories of Best Contemporary Song and Best Song Musically And Lyrically at the Ivor Novello Awards For 1997 in London held this afternoon (Thursday, May 28) in London.

The band, who accepted their awards in person at the ceremony, won the first award for last year's epic single 'Paranoid Android' and Best Contemporary Song for 'Karma Police'. (NME)

When The Net caught up with the band's Ed O'Brien, he was struggling under the weight of his trophies:

"They're very heavy. They're very very heavy! They're very nice statues, it's very nice, but it's kind of a bit embarrassing as well, because the first one was put up against The Verve and the second one put up against Cornershop. I think the wonderful thing about music is it's so subjective, so whether we deserved to win it. I personally, honestly feel that we didn't, but other people did, so that's cool."BBC

DISPUTE OVER LIVE PERFORMANCE FORCES RADIOHEAD OUT OF GRAMMYS SHOW 

"The band subsequently plan to boycott the ceremony despite being nominated in the Best Album and Best Alternative Performance categories.

The situation has occurred because Radiohead turned down an invitation to perform with David Bowie at the awards. According to Radiohead's management, the event's producers were unwilling to let Radiohead play alone. They were told it wouldn't be good for ratings.

"The group wanted to perform 'Exit Music (For A Film)' on their own which we thought would have worked really well," said a band management spokesman"(NME).

Tuned to Their Own Frequency A Grammy nomination caps a year in which iconclastic Radiohead joined the resurgence of British rock.

So does Thom Yorke of Radiohead have his Grammy acceptance speech already written?

"Oh, yeah," Yorke says, smiling mischievously. "I'd like to thank . . . " His voice trails off, but the smile remains.

Well no, Yorke admits, the British rock band won't be in New York on Wednesday for the Grammy Awards, even though its "OK Computer" is nominated for album of the year. "I get a little nervous about things like awards and sales," Yorke says ...
