Impresiona, emociona...
desde la primera escucha.
Y con eso daría por finalizada esta crítica.
Desde Amnesiac, cada uno de mis cometarios sobre los trabajos de Thom Yorke/Radiohead
ocultaban (unos más claramente que otros) cierto nivel de reserva.
Con Amok no lo hay.
Thom Yorke encuentra en la súper formación de Atoms for Peace
la mejor manera de realizar sus sueños experimentales más
sincopados, que alcanzaran una expresión mucho más limitada
en las canciones más experimentales de los Radiohead post OK Computer,
como Idioteque, Feral, y un largo etcétera de canciones irregulares
que se aglutinan en el disco en solitario de Thom Yorke, The Eraser. Efectivamente,
Amok es considerado por muchos como una mera continuación de The
Eraser, caracterizado por sus altibajos.
En Amok no los hay.
El disco es tan compacto (valga la ironía en esta época que
nos ha tocado vivir de descargas y cacharros varios con misteriosas manzanas)
que en esta ocasión no lo voy a desglosar en canciones. No, no es
un disco de Thom Yorke, Flea, por ejemplo, es preciso, virtuoso, pero sobre
todo emocional, sirviendo de perfecto puente entre las dos caras de Amok.
Sin caer jamás en la reiteración, todas las canciones de
Amok forman parte de un todo casi demasiado hermoso. Los ritmos que bombean
su sangre no son producto de las muñecas de un ser humano. Amok
es electrónico, pero está inundado de la melodía más
orgánica y del falsete de Thom, arropado por sus coros armónicos,
que atraviesan cada canción como caballos que galopan felices sobre
un paisaje digital.
Las pantallas de retina confunden a cualquiera, y la felicidad está
en la ignorancia.
Radiohead volverá a reunirse a finales
del verano de 2013 para grabar su noveno album de estudio según
Colin Greenwood ha comentado en la BBC Atoms For Peace aparecerá en London's Oval Space el 22
de febrero y podría actuar en Glastonbury este año.

We're taking some time out whilst people are doing some other stuff,
doing their own things, and the plan is to get back together again [at
the] end of the summer
Radiohead released their eighth album, 'The King Of Limbs', in 2011
and played a UK arena tour last autumn.
Frontman Thom Yorke is currently preparing to launch the debut album
from his Atoms For Peace project.
Atoms For Peace – Thom Yorke's side project with Godrich, Flea from
Red Hot Chili Peppers and percussionist Mauro Refosco – release their debut
album 'Amok' on February 25 via XL.
In a recent interview, Yorke said Atoms For Peace wouldn't be playing
Glastonbury Festival. "We won't have got our shit together by then," he
explained.(NME)

el prograna de BBX Radio 1 de Zane Lowe el 7 de enero de 2013. Atoms For

ATOMS FOR PEACE Esta historia arranca en el año 2009, cundo Thom
Yorke invita a algunos amigos para que le acompañen en el directo
de su primer álbum en solitario, el sorprendente Eraser (XL, 2006).
El 2 de octubre de ese año se suben al escenario de Echoplex, en
Los Ángeles, junto a Yorke, Flea, bajista de los Red Hot Chili Peppers,
Nigel Godrich, productor de Radiohead (guitarra, teclados, segunda voz
y percusiones), Mauro Refosco (Percusión) y Joey Waronker (Batería),
en lo que supone su primera actuación conjunta en directo. Es el
principio de una gran amistad. La banda, todavía sin nombre en ese
momento, es bautizada por Yorke como una de las canciones de su álbum,
Atoms for Peace. La banda incia entonces una pequeña gira de dos
semanas por los Estados Unidos con Flying Lotus de telonero, antes de actuar
en el festival de Coachela en 2010, un bautismo de masas que marca un antes
y un después en la banda. A parir de aquí llegan las primeras
composiciones, como Judge, Jury and Executioner, cuyo nombre empalma
con el de otra canción de Radiohead, Myxomatosis (Judge, Jury
and Executioner). En septiembre de 2012 la banda lanza el single Deafult,
como adelanto del álbum de debut, Amok, que se publicó el
pasado 28 de febrero, y del que ya circula el vídeo de Ingenue,

The Scott Johnson Bursary Fund for Young Musicians Over the past couple of months, a number of people have asked if there

Exito de Radiohead en el Bilbao BBK Un total de 39.476 personas han asistido a la segunda jornada de la
séptima edición del Bilbao BBK Live 2012 y se ha estado muy
cerca de mejorar la mayor asistencia de día del evento, que aún
ostenta Metallica como cabeza de cartel en 2007 con 39.740 personas.
Este viernes 13 ha arrancado con los conciertos de Eli ‘Paperboy’ Reed
(sala BBK, 12.30h) y Glasvegas (Atrio AlhondigaBilbao, 13.30h) para después
abrir las puertas del recinto de Kobetamendi a las 17.30h y recibir a artistas
de la talla de The Kooks, Vetusta Morla, Four Tet, Noah & The Whale,
Mumford & Sons, We Are Augustines o Awolnation, entre otros.
Pero, sin duda alguna, la estrella de la jornada ha sido Radiohead.
Thom Yorke y los suyos han estado a la altura de las enormes expectativas

Radiohead pospone sus conciertos tras el derrumbe de su escenario
en Toronto El accidente provocó la muerte del técnico Scott Johnson
Mantiene los conciertos del BBK en Bilbao y el Optimus Alive de
Lisboa, entre otros La banda de Thom Yorke, Radiohead, ha decidido mantener la mayoria
de los conciertos previstos en Europa tras la tragedia ocurrida durante
su concierto de Toronto el pasado fin de semana, cuando el techo del escenario
se desplomó. El accidente se producía mientras se preparaba
el concierto por lo que no afectó a los músicos, pero sí
a parte del equipo de Radiohead. Scott Jhonson, técnico de la banda,
rsultó muerto a causa del accidente. Los miembros de Radiohead han
expresado su gran pesar por la muerte de Scott, a quien consideraban uno
de sus colaboradores más vaiosos, además de un compañero
entrañable. En el accidente resultaron heridas otras tres personas.
Algunos conciertos en Europa serán reprogramados y se mantienen,
tal cual, los previstos para el BBK de Bilbao y el Optimus Alive de Lisboa.

Como probablemente ya habréis oído, el techo se derrumbó
sobre el escenario en nuestro concierto de Toronto provocando la muerte

del equipo de montaje. El derrumbe también destrozó las luces
–este diseño era único y llevará semanas sustituirlo-.
También causó serios daños a nuestro backline, algunos
de cuyos instrumentos tenían décadas de antigüedad y
serán, por tanto, difíciles de reparar.
Mientras afrontamos el dolor y el shock derivados de este terrible
accidente, también hay muchas consideraciones prácticas que
tratar y, a consecuencia de ello, debemos reprogramar las siguientes actuaciones:

As you will probably have heard the roof over the stage collapsed at
our show in Toronto killing crew member Scott Johnson and injuring three
other crew members. The collapse also destroyed the light show – this show
was unique and will take many weeks to replace. The collapse also caused
serious damage to our backline, some elements of which are decades old
and therefore hard to replace.
Whilst we all are dealing with the grief and shock ensuing from this
terrible accident there are also many practical considerations to deal
with & consequently we have to try and reschedule the following shows:

Philip's solo shows at Pegasus Theatre Hello
Next month, on the 10th and 11th November, I will be doing a couple
of shows of my solo material at The Pegasus Theatre in Oxford to mark the
start of their 50th Anniversary. I'm a patron of the theatre and these
shows are fundraisers to support the fantastic and really valuable work
that Pegasus does in providing access to the creative arts for young people.
It's a wonderfully intimate place to see a show, so if you fancy coming

Rowe Caribou and Canadian producer and DJ Jacques Greene have remixed two
tracks from Radiohead's Kings of Limbs. Dan Snaith's group remix Little
by Little (it’s as every bit as brilliant as you’d expect) while new artist
Jacque Greene, who is currently working on a live set up for his soulful
electronica, takes on Lotus Flower. The band explained on their site that
more 12? remixes will be released every couple of weeks or, in their own
words, “until we run out of remixes or summer”. The next release will feature
Nathan Fake reworking Morning Mr Mapgie and remixes of Bloom by Mark Pritchard.

FYI... 'The Butcher' was recorded and mixed during
'The King of Limbs' sessions, but we couldn't make it work on the album;
'Supercollider' was started during those sessions and finished off in March

fans are speculating that the band may be about the release another album
soon as the follow-up to 'The King Of Limbs'.
The band released the new album on Friday (February 18) having announced
its release four days previously. Now fans are highlighting a number of
factors possibly pointing towards another release.
Some fans have taken the title of 'The King Of Limbs'' last track,
'Separator', to mean that a companion album is on the way - the song acting
as a 'seperator' between the two.
Other theories point towards orders for 'The King Of Limbs' being numbered
'TKOL1'. Some fans are suggesting this could mean a 'TKOL2' release for
the near future.

completo, dos vinilos, 625 láminas ilustradas y sorpresas.
Pero aunque el disco podrá conocer el día 19 de febrero
y adquirse en formato digital y reservarse el «Newspapr Deluxe».
No será hasta el 9 de mayo cuando se envíen las copias físicas
de «The King of Limbs».

Después de 'regalar' su anterior disco, 'In Rainbows' (2007)
al pedir únicamente la voluntad a sus seguidores por descargarlo,

por estos canales para distribuir sus nuevas canciones.
El álbum es el octavo de la banda liderada por Thom Yorke, y
también es producido por Nigel Godrich, como todos los discos de

Philip Selway, baterista de Radiohead estará
actuando en España durante La Semana Santa, tocando algunas canciones
de su próximo debut en solitario. El concierto será una presentación
conjunta con la artista norteamericana Lisa Germano, que también

muerte de Mark Linkous (Sparklehorse) que estuvo acompañandoles
en la gira por Europa en la época de OK Computer y que fue una gran
influencia para él
Mark Linkous RIP I was very sad to hear the news that Mark Linkous has died. He and
his band toured with us in Europe, at the start of OK Computer, and they
were great every night. His first two records were very important to me,
and I carried his music from the tour into my life, and my friends’ lives
too. He was softly spoken, with an Old South courtesy I hadn’t heard before:
he introduced me to Daniel Johnston’s music, and the West Virginian writing
of Pinckney Benedict. Mark wrote and played some beautiful music, and we’re
lucky to have it. Rest in Peace. Colin

The documentary film The Sun Came
Out about the making of The 7 Worlds Collide collaboration is
being premiered at 7:30 on Tuesday February 9 at the largest of the
Metro 4 theaters in Santa Barbara as
part of the film festival there . Neil Finn who was the instigator
of this project will be taking part in a Q & A session
after the screening along with the film maker Simon Mark Brown. He will
then be
joined by Lisa Germano and Sebastian Steinberg for
a special performance 10.00 pm at the Soho club in Santa Barbara
to perform a
number of songs from the 7 Worlds Collide album. Tiket The film is a highly entertaining account of an intense 3 weeks of
music making featuring never seen before studio footage of members
of Wilco , Radiohead , Johnny Marr , KT Tunstall and others writing rehearsing
and recording the songs that made up this extraordinary double album.
There will be a repeat screening of the film the following Saturday
night Feb 13th.

Radiohead are set to resume recording their
next album in January. According to guitarist Ed O'Brien, the Oxford band are looking forward
to reconvening in their studio next, but was coy as to what material they
are working on.
"The vibe in the camp is fantastic at present, and we head off into
the studio in January to continue on from the work we started last summer,"
he wrote on the band's Dear Air Space blog, adding that the sessions were
very collaborative between the band's members.
"I am so genuinely excited about what we’re doing, but for obvious
reasons I can’t divulge anything more," he explained. "Anyway we all love
surprises don’t we? Ten years ago we were all collectively (that’s the
band) in the land of 'Kid A' and although hugely proud of that record,
it wasn’t a fun place to be. What’s reassuring now, is that we are most
definitely a different band, which should therefore mean that the music
is different too and that is the aim of the game. Keep it moving."
O'Brien also used his post to attack the UN Climate Change Conference
in Copenhagen, attended by his bandmate Thom Yorke for failing to tackle
the issues raised.
"I haven’t spoken to Thom yet, but judging by his entries here and
reading today’s papers the outcome of Copenhagen is a bloody disgrace,"
he wrote.
However deciding that his post was a bit too downbeat as an end of
year message, the guitarist returned later to recommend ten films over
Christmas, which are as follows:

consecutive matinee showings of it.
Signing off he wished fans: "a peaceful and happy Christmas in spite
of all the current madness, and good luck to us all in 2010". (NME)

Radiohead's Phil Selway, Pink Floyd's Nick Mason and The Police's
Stewart Copeland have added their support to a campaign striving to keep
the peace in Sudan.
The Sudan365 campaign sees each of the drummers appearing in a film
that is set to launch online today (January 9). The brainchild of Faithless
drummer Jamie Catto, the video features a 'drum beat for peace' that starts
in Sudan and is then passed around 15 other countries like a baton.
"I wanted to be involved in this project because I think music is such
a powerful way of bringing people together," said Selway of the video,
which is available to view on Sudan365.org. "Of course, I'm biased in thinking
that what's underpinning it all is always the beat - always drummers!"
He added: "Hopefully this film will show that together people can make
a huge noise and through this film I hope people's focus will be brought
back to what is happening in the Sudan over this very important next year."
Other drummers in the film include Snow Patrol's Jonny Quinn, renowned
Egyptian drummer Yehia Khalil and Mustapha Tettey Addy from Ghana. (NME)

is a radical rework of an old tune thats been kicking around without a
home since 2001? i think.
The Hollow Earth is a bass menace that was born out of the Eraser period
but needed a little more time.
Both were produced by Nigel Godrich as ever. And mastered by Bob Ludwig.
They are being put out on 12" with sliced sleeve by Stanley and Tchock.
My sources tell me this will be available from the 21st of September
if you're interested.. On sale in the w.a.s.t.e part of our website (with
a gratis download.)
Or you can go buy it in a good record shop if you are lucky enough

Radiohead formally released their new song “These Are My Twisted Words”
as a free download today on their Dead Air Space Website. “We’ve been recording
for a while, and this was one of the first we finished. We’re pretty proud
of it,” guitarist Jonny Greenwood wrote, making no mention of the song’s
leak. “There’s other stuff in various states of completion, but this is
one we’ve been practicing, and which we’ll probably play at this summer’s
concerts. Hope you like it.” Radiohead have five concerts planned this
month, starting with an August 21st performance at Austria’s Frequency
Festival.
As Rock Daily previously reported, “These Are My Twisted Words” came
out of nowhere last week after appearing on a Torrent site. An ASCII file
that accompanied the song stated that “Twisted Words” was supposed to be
released on August 17th, leading fans to speculate whether it would part
of an EP called Wall of Ice due to the artwork that also came with the
file. In the end, there was no EP, and as Rock Daily had hypothesized last
week, “Twisted Words” was a stand-alone track fated for Radiohead’s Waste
digital music store.
Contrary to reports on other Websites, the Wallofice.com site that
popped up in the days following the leaked “These Are My Twisted Words”
turned out to be a creation of someone not affiliated with the band. It’s
been an active past couple weeks for Radiohead, who have slowly begun revealing
new music for the first time since 2007’s In Rainbows. First, frontman
Thom Yorke debuted a new song called “The Present Tense” at the Latitude
Festival, then the band released a new track titled “Harry Patch (In Memory
Of)” as a charity download. Fans can expect as least one more new song
by year’s end when Yorke contributes a track to the soundtrack of the Twilight
sequel New Moon.
Radiohead surprised fans and listeners of the BBC
this morning by premiering a new song called “Harry Patch (In Memory
Of).” The song is a tribute to Harry Patch, who was the last living
World War I veteran to fight in the trenches until his death on July 25th
at the ripe old age of 111. As Thom Yorke writes on Radiohead’s Dead Air
Space Website, a “very emotional” interview Patch gave to the BBC in 2005
was the inspiration for the song. “The way he talked about war had a profound
effect on me,” Yorke writes. “It became the inspiration for a song that
we happened to record a few weeks before his death.”
The song is available now through Radiohead’s Waste digital music store
for the price of one pound, or about $1.70. Proceeds from the song will
benefit the British Legion. The strings on “Harry Patch” were arranged
by Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood, and the track itself is similar to Greenwood’s
Academy Award-snubbed score for There Will Be Blood, except it features
Yorke singing lyrics either inspired by or previously spoken by Harry Patch
himself. “I very much hope the song does justice to his memory as the last
survivor,”

Recently the last remaining UK veteran of the 1st world war Harry Patch
died at the age of 111.
I had heard a very emotional interview with him a few years ago on
the Today program on Radio4.
The way he talked about war had a profound effect on me.
It became the inspiration for a song that we happened to record a few
weeks before his death.
It was done live in an abbey. The strings were arranged by Jonny.
I very much hope the song does justice to his memory as the last survivor.
It would be very easy for our generation to forget the true horror
of war, without the likes of Harry to remind us.
I hope we do not forget.
As Harry himself said
"Irrespective of the uniforms we wore, we were all victims".
This morning the Today program played the song for the first time and
now it is available to download from our website.

Mayo 09 Radiohead have reconvened with longtime producer Nigel Godrich to start
work on the follow-up of 2007’s In Rainbows. “It was very noisy and chaotic
and really fun,” bassist Colin Greenwood told BBC’s 6 Music of the band’s
recording session. “It’s at the stage where we’ve got the big Lego box
out and we’ve tipped it out on the floor and we’re just looking at all
the bits and thinking ‘What’s next?’ I’m very impressed and grateful for
Nigel our producer and his ability to make it all sound vaguely plausible.”
URBAN MYTH CLUB SE ATREVEN CON RADIOHEAD La banda encabezada por Dezz le ha dado una vuelta de tuerca a la versión
que ha hecho Eliza Lumley del "Creep" de Radiohead. Se trataría

No importó que el show tuviera que chantarse durante 10 minutos
debido a atados técnicos. Nada logró opacar la tremenda y
esperada presentación que se mandaron anoche los chiquillos de Radiohead
en la Pista Atlética del Estadio Nacional.
La banda inglesa cumplió con creces lo que sus fanáticos
estaban esperando y a punta de hits y con una puesta en escena impecable,
que incluyó un escenario lleno de luces, Tom Yorke y sus boys dejaron
babeando a los cerca de 28 mil pericos que repletaron el recinto ñuñoíno.
Radiohead hizo un recorrido por toda su historia musical, tocando temones
de sus últimos discos y clásicos como "Paranoid Android",
"Idioteque", "Creep" y "Karma Police", que hicieron alucinar a los
chiquillos.
Al final, el saldo fue positivo y sólo quedó pa' la anécdota
los cerca de 80 pericos que fueron atendidos en la enfermería del
lugar producto de desmayos y algunos pasaditos de la sopaipa. Recordemos
que hoy será el segundo concierto del grupete.

La banda inglesa Radiohead llegó a Chile por primera vez para
ofrecer hoy el primero de sus dos conciertos en la pista atlética
del Estadio Nacional, en Santiago, donde prometió hacer "un show
sorprendente".
Así lo afirmó al diario local El Mercurio el vocalista
del grupo, Thom Yorke, quien llegó este miércoles, justo
con el resto de la banda, procedente de Argentina en su avión privado.
Al principio un poco serios, los autores de éxitos como "Karma
Police" disfrutaron en un conocido restaurante de la capital de raviolis,
pizzas, mariscos y "piscolas", una versión chilena del tradicional
cubalibre a base de cola con pisco.
"Es un honor estar en Chile, pero esto es muy raro. Somos seres humanos
no "rockstars"", dijo Ed O"Brien, guitarrista del grupo, quien se mostró
sorprendido por la muchedumbre que les esperaba a las puertas del local.
La relación de la banda con sus fanáticos chilenos ya
dio de qué hablar el pasado fin de semana, cuando sus integrantes
estaban en Brasil, donde participaron en el festival "Just a Fest".
Tras su presentación en Río de Janeiro, los integrantes
del grupo fueron a comer en un restaurante local, donde conocieron a unas
chilenas que, a pesar de haber asistido a su espectáculo, en ningún
momento les reconocieron.
Sin ningún tipo de pudor y tras explicarles que no podrían
ir a Santiago por estar en Brasil, las chicas intentaron vender a esos
"desconocidos" sus entradas para el concierto de Radiohead en Chile, sin
saber que quienes estaban delante suyo eran los propios protagonistas de
ese recital.
"Ellas nos dijeron que Radiohead era una gran banda, y que no podían
viajar a Chile a ver al grupo porque estaban de vacaciones en Brasil. Por
eso nos ofrecían las entradas", explicaron Yorke y O"Brien en una
entrevista al canal 24 horas de la red estatal de televisión (TVN).
A las 13:05 horas, el avión privado que
trajo al grupo desde Buenos Aires aterrizó en el sector de Aerocardal;
un par de minutos después los cinco músicos aparecieron.
No hubo efusividad; sólo Thom Yorke -la voz y rostro del conjunto-
se mostró risueño y alzó la mano. Su polera blanca
lucía una consigna de profunda inspiración "radiohediana":
"Mi life is almost finished" ("Mi vida está casi acabada").
Por la tarde, la agenda de la banda incluyó una cena en el restaurante
Liguria donde fueron esperados por cerca de 50 personas entre fanáticos,
prensa y curiosos. "Es un honor estar en Chile, pero esto es muy raro.
Somos seres humanos no rockstars", dijo el guitarrista Ed O'Brien a la
salida del local. Ya de regreso en el hotel Grand Hyatt, donde se quedarían
hasta el domingo 29, ocurrió lo inesperado: Yorke salió del
recinto a firmar autógrafos. "Esperamos que sea un show sorprendente",
fueron las escuetas palabras del vocalista, mientras era fotografiado por
sus fanáticos.
Phil Selway les preguntó al club de fans por el repentino cambio
de San Carlos de Apoquindo a la pista atlética: "Le contamos que
las gradería eran puro fierro, y se preocupó. Nos dijo que
mañana (hoy) iban a pedir que fuera alguien a revisar la seguridad"
A eso de las 20:30 horas de ayer, Radiohead en pleno fue a cenar al
restaurante Liguria del sector Manuel Montt. El grupo, que llegó
en dos grandes camionetas blancas, ocupó todo el segundo piso del
local, mientras eran custodiados por sus propios guardaespaldas. En la
cena de la banda, que se extendió cerca de dos horas, hubo pollo,
pastas, pizzas y mariscos.

Stones / Argentina La espera terminó. Por fin, una de las mayores expectativas
musicales sufridas por el público argentino llegó a su conclusión
durante la primera noche del Quilmes Rock 2009 en el Club Ciudad de Buenos
Aires. La llegada de Radiohead a nuestro país reunió a unas
30 mil personas que, al mismo tiempo, canalizaron sus ansiedades acumuladas
durante años experimentando la sensación única generada
por las presentaciones del quinteto de Oxford en vivo.

la banda tocó la totalidad de los temas de su séptimo
y último disco (faltó sólo "Faust Arp") y dió
un paseo breve a través del resto de sus trabajos de estudio. Comenzando
con "15 Steps", la aparición de Thom Yorke al escenario significó
la prueba tangible -o casi- de que el sueño se había hecho
realidad. Sus particulares y reconocidos movimientos (cuando baila, una
especie de nerd poseído), su timidez para conversar con el público
("Ok?", "gracias" y "muchas gracias") y su inigualable, versátil,
virtuosa voz (ver apartado) se materializaron ahí, a unos cuantos
centímetros del suelo, y guiaron a 30 mil personas a través
de un viaje introspectivo, profundo. La combinación perfecta con
los otros cuatro miembros (Jonny Greenwod a la cabeza, Colin, Ed O`Brien
y Phil Selway) hizo que cada uno de los temas sonara como en los discos,
pero a la máxima potencia. Y con una increíble puesta visual:
decenas de estalactitas luminosas, tomarían cada uno de los colores
del arco iris para ilustrar las distintas emociones de este trip que tuvo
sus tramos bailables (con "Jigsaw Falling Into Place" + "Idioteque" + "Bodysnatchers"
y la versión de "Everything In Its Right Place"-ver aparte-) y sus
tramos melancólicos, esencialmente radioheanos (con "No Surprises"
+ "Pyramid Song" + "Street Spirit (Fade Out)" y el final, "Creep").
La
Nacion El grupo inglés fue precedido por La Portuaria y el conjunto
alemán Kraftwerk, que dio paso, a las 21.20, a la formación
que conduce Thom Yorke, uno de los grupos surgidos de la movida "british",
en la que participaron, entre otros, Oasis, Blur y The Verve.
El grupo repasó durante el recital algunos de sus éxitos
como "15 Step", "Airbag", "There There", "All I Need", que se utilizó
como promoción en MTV, "Kid a" y "Karma Police".
El
Clarín La espera terminó. El conjunto británico Radiohead se

mezcla de tensión y emoción, a miles de personas que esperaron
más de 15 años su llegada.
El grupo liderado por Thom Yorke puso el broche de oro a una jornada
de música ecléctica que contó también con la
banda de electrónica alemana Kraftwerk y una de las formaciones
de mayor éxito de los últimos años en Brasil, Los
Hermanos, que se volvieron a reunir con motivo de este festival tras dos
años sin tocar juntos.
Pese a no ser una banda de masas, aunque si de culto, Radiohead logró
congregar a cerca de 25.000 personas en la Plaza de la Apoteósis
del Sambódromo de Río, escenario que hace apenas un mes era
testigo del delirio de los desfiles de las principales escuelas de samba
del Carnaval.
"15 Steps" fue el tema con el que los chicos de Oxford abrieron un

En su primera cita brasileña, sin embargo, Radiohead tuvo que
compartir protagonismo con Los hermanos, uno de los mayores exponentes
de la música carioca de los últimos años que en abril
de 2007 puso un punto y aparte a su carrera y que volvió a reunirse
únicamente con motivo de este festival.
Los Hermanos tocaban en casa y, aunque con el recinto todavía
por llenar, no decepcionaron a los seguidores que esperaban con anhelo
la reunión para volver a escuchar en vivo su rock de raíces
brasileñas en temas como "O vencedor", "Morena" o "Sentimental",
quién sabe si por última vez.
La nota extravagante de la noche la pusieron los alemanes Kraftwerk,
auténticos dinosaurios de la música electrónica que
a punto están de cumplir cuarenta años en activo y de los
que sólo queda uno de sus integrantes originales.
Protegidos tras sus computadores y apoyados en las proyecciones digitales
a sus espaldas, los alemanes convirtieron durante poco más de una
hora la plaza en una pista de baile improvisada, en la que no faltaron
las indispensables "Tour de France", "Manmachine" o "The Robots".
Tras Río de Janeiro, el festival "Just a Fest" tendrá
una segunda y última parada en Sao Paulo, antes de que Radiohead
continúe con su minigira por Latinoamérica que ya les ha
llevado a tocar en México y con la que se presentarán la
semana próxima en Argentina y Chile.

al ingresar al escenario carioca y sin más presentaciones el grupo

A los largo de más de dos horas los ingleses interpretaron canciones
de su último disco, Rainbows, lanzado en 2007, y otras de sus 14
álbumes anteriores como "Airbag", "Karma police" y clásico
"Ok computer", de 1997. La presentación
fue cerrada con el tema Creep uno de los mayores sucesos de la banda cuyo
primer disco fue lanzado en 1993.

evento “Just a fest”, que tuvo lugar en la plaza de la Apoteosis, en el
Sambódromo carioca. El show tuvo como soportes a los alemanes Kraftwerk,
pioneros de la música electrónica, y el retorno del popular
cuarteto carioca Los Hermanos. “Buenas noches, somos Radiohead”, dijo en
buen portugués el vocalista y guitarrista Tom Yorke, provocando
el delirio del público local y también de los alemanes, estadounidenses,
argentinos y peruanos que llegaron para verlos. Con 25 temas de los siete
discos de su carrera, del primero “Pablo honey” (1993) al último
“In rainbows” (2007, vendido en línea por el precio que sus fans
consideraran adecuado), Radiohead cautivó a su público, sobre
todo de la franja de 20 a 30 años, que le acompañó
cantando en coro sus éxitos.La fiesta se repetirá hoy en
São Paulo, donde los 30,000 boletos se agotaron. Radiohead llegó
a Brasil proveniente de México y luego viajará a Argentina

Radiohead ofreció esta noche el primero de los dos conciertos
que realiza en el Foro Sol, y que representa su regreso después
de 15 años de haber visitado por primera vez el país.
Cincuenta y cinco mil personas fueron testigos del histórico
regreso de Thom Yorke y sus compañeros de grupos, quienes interpretaron
los mejor de su discografía durante casi dos horas que duró
la presentación.
El quinteto originario de Oxford subió al escenario a las 21:35
horas e inició su actuación con el tema "15 Step". Le siguieron:
"Airbag", "There there", "All I Need", "Nude", "The national anthem".
A pesar de que es bien conocido que Thom Yorke se ha caracterizado
por ser una persona muy reservada dentro y fuera del escenario, el músico
se mostró feliz de reencontrarse con el público mexicano,
que en todo momento le brindó su calor al conjunto británico.
Tal como lo ha hecho en otros países, Radiohead trajo a México
la misma producción de su gira mundial "In rainbows" y utilizó
las barras de iluminación LEDS.
Como parte de su gira latinoamericana, el legendario cuarteto alemán
Kraftwerk fue la banda soporte de Radiohead.
Los ánimos del público estuvieron siempre arriba, incluso
antes de iniciar el recital del quinteto británico el público
hizo varias veces la tradicional ola.
A las 22:50 horas, Radiohead realizó el tradicional ‘encore',
y deleitó a sus fans con las canciones "Videotape", "Paranoide",
"Android", "House of Cards", "My iron lung".

la espera de 15 años que los mexicanos tuvieron que aguantar para
que la banda británica Radiohead regresara al país, que los
vio en sus inicios en una pequeña gira en clubs nocturnos de la
ciudad de México, el Estado de México y Guadalajara.
El escenario decorado con tubos de luz colocados en forma vertical,
los cuales sólo dejaron el espacio justo para que el grupo integrado
por Ed O’Brien, Phil Selway, Colin y Jonny Greenwood fue recurso para que
enloqueciera a los 55 mil asistentes al Foro Sol en la ciudad de México

El líder de la banda Tom York apareció pasadas las 21:40
horas del domingo, en el escenario, con un atuendo cómodo, luciendo
una playera polo azul y jeans, además de su clásico peinado
alborotado y con su inseparable guitarra.
“Airbag nude”, “No sorprises”, “All I need” y “The gloaming” fueron
algunos de los temas que interpretaron en la velada, la cual muchos de
los fanáticos creyeron incompleta porque no llegó la canción
que los catapultara a la fama en México y el mundo: “Creep”, aunque
esta situación muchos la tenían presente porque en diferentes
declaraciones de York habían escuchado: “odio ese tema que habla
de perdedores”.
Mientras la velada continuaba se escuchaba el grito de los vendedores
ambulantes, “¡Chelas, chelas!” mientras Laura, una fan, cantaba a
todo pulmón “Faust arp” en versión acústica. Pero
nada fue más dramático que la historia de Jesús, seguidor
del grupo, quien recordó con lágrimas cuando vio por primera
vez a la banda en Ojo de Agua en el año de 1994. “Yo tenía
17 años y le robé dinero a mi mamá para ir a verlos,
estuve a medio metro de Tom, nunca pensé que los volvería
a ver, ahora soy plomero, tengo cuatro hijos, pero aún así
conseguí mil 200 pesos para venir a verlos”.

La banda se volvió a retirar después de tocar Street
spirit, pero retornaron e interpretaron Piramid song que resultó
alucinantemente buena para la gran mayoría de la gente. El esperado
recital roquero culminó con Everything in its right place. El concierto
comenzó con 15 step y posteriormente tocaron Hairbag, después
de la cual Yorke agradeció en español a su público.

Amigos de la Tierra difundirá este fin de semana su campaña
contra el cambio climático, en el marco de los conciertos que ofrecerá
Radiohead en la Ciudad de México, los próximos 15 y 16 de
marzo.
Dentro de la gira mundial de Radiohead, que incluye a la capital mexicana,
y como en otros países, Amigos de la Tierra acudirá al Foro
Sol para difundir su campaña “No te quemes. Bájale al calentamiento
global”.
El vocalista de Radiohead, Thom Yorke ha expresado, en repetidas ocasiones,
que “las soluciones al cambio climático ya existen, sólo
necesitamos que los políticos lleven a cabo las decisiones correctas
porque ellos escriben las leyes que los ciudadanos deben de seguir. Apoyen
firmando a favor de las campañas de Amigos de la Tierra en nuestros
conciertos o en sus respectivos sitios de internet, y muestren a sus gobiernos
que los quieren ver hacer más contra el cambio climático”,
añadió Yorke.
El músico inicio su colaboración con la campaña
en Reino Unido, donde Amigos de la Tierra ha logrado convencer al gobierno
para que presente una ley pionera de cambio climático.

in the UK by Kosovar children medically evacuated to Manchester in 1999.

Las
páginas especiales de IndyRock dedicadas a Radiohead, nacieron en
1996. Desde esas fechas hasta ahora en 2008, doce años después,
hemos intentado informar y transmitir las noticias que se se producían,
realizar las crónicas y las imágenes que generaban una de
las bandas más importantes que se han desarrollado en las dos últimas
décadas. Agradecemos a Radiohead todas las facilidades que nos han
dado siempre para la realización de nuestro trabajo, a nuestros
colaboradores que nos han ayudado a llevarlo a cabo y a los cientos de
seguidores que hemos tenido desde el principio. De las páginas que
se iniciaron en aquellos días ya sólo quedamos en pie nosotros,
aunque más tarde se han desarrollado muchísimos más

CONFIRMADO Radiohead en gira por Latinoamerica
en marzo 2009 Ya estan confirmadas algunas de las fechas de la gira que Radiohead
hará por varios paises latinoamericanos en marzo de 2009. Las primeras
confirman su presencia en Mexico los dias 15 y 16 en el Foro Sol y en el
estadio San Carlos de Apoquindo de Santiago de Chile el 26 y 27 en el Cristal
en Vivo Festival . Quedan pendientes las fechas para Argentina y Brazil.
Radiohead no visitaba México desde el año 94 cuando su hit

pedido en repetidas ocasiones que la banda realice una gira por allí

in 2009. The band are set to play shows in latin America in March. In addition
to performing at Mexico City's Foro Sol on March 15 and 16, the band will
headline the Cristal en Vivo Festival on March 27 in Santiago.
Radiohead's website also lists shows in Argentina and Brazil, but the
exact dates and locations have not yet been revealed.

Meanwhile, Radiohead's Ed O'Brien and Phil Selway are set to team up
with Neil Finn for the follow-up to 2001's 'Worlds Collide' album to raise
money for Oxfam, as previously reported. (NME)
Ed and Philip will rejoin Neil Finn in a
follow up to the acclaimed Seven Worlds Collide project at the end of the
year. Together with members of the original line up and other artists,
the 'supergroup' will record an album of entirely new material in support
of international development organisation Oxfam.
The original Seven Worlds Collide line up was Neil Finn, Ed O'Brien,
Phil Selway, guitar supremo Johnny Marr, Soul Coughing bassist Sebastian
Steinberg, songwriter and violinist Lisa Germano, and Liam Finn. Other
artists joining the project include Jeff Tweedy, John Stirrat, Glenn Kotche
and Pat Sansone from Wilco, and New Zealand songwriters Bic Runga and Don
McGlashan. Behind the mixing desk will be master recording engineer Jim
Scott. More names will be added to the lineup in the coming weeks.
The album will be recorded over the next few months in Auckland and
is due for release in 2009. Like its predecessor, the project will also
see a series of concerts featuring many of the artists included in the
line up. The shows will take place in Auckland early in the New Year (Radiohead.com)

nuevo album según ha comentado Colin Greenwood a la BBC tras perder
el premio Mercury Prize al que estaba nominada la banda
"We've finished the main bulk of it and we're off to Japan in a couple
of weeks to finish it off," Greenwood said.
Ed O'Brien added: "We're still talking about doing some stuff and we're
really excited about it. First we came off tour to do some writing and

Rainbows Radiohead have won an Ivor Novello Award for Best Album, as announced
at the London award ceremony today. The band's 7th album 'In Rainbows'
was voted Best Album beating Cherry Ghost's Thirst For Romance and Stephen
Fretwell's Man On The Roof, traditionally announced at London's Grosvenor
House Hotel by the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters.

Radiohead han aprovechado su estancia en
Florida para grabar un video de House of Cards, correpondiente al
single que se está usando en USA para promoción de la gira
La grabación se realizó en Production Studio 'GStar',
una Escuela para estudiantes de producción. Se ha usado una tecnica
nueva de HD por mecanismo laser el HDL64E que han desarrollado en Velodyne
de San Francisco y que no utiliza cámaras sino sistemas láseres
que dan una vision en 3D de 360º de una amplia area.
Radiohead en contra de EMI por la publicación
de 'Greatest Hits' album En una entrevista a The Word Thom Yorke dijo: "We haven't really had
any hits so what exactly is the purpose?"
He added: "There's nothing we can do about it. The work is really public
property now anyway, in my head at least. It's a wasted opportunity in
that if we'd been behind it, and we wanted to do it, then it might have
been good."
Speaking about moving away from EMI he said: "Personally I just wanted
to forget about it. It didn't feel right. And now it's like when you move
house: you don't want to peer through the window and see what they've done
with the wallpaper because it will only upset you."
Yorke also blasted claims they had asked for "£10 million" to
re-sign with the label, a quote which came from Guy Hands, the label's
boss.
"The idea what we were after so much money as to stretching the truth
to breaking point," he declared. "That was his PR company briefing against
us..I was so angry...it was a clear indication that the relationship was

World's Most Influential People: leaders, thinkers, heroes, artists, scientists
and more.
Edgar Bronfman Jr., CEO of Warner Music Group wrote the article, saying
that after the groundbreaking release of Radiohead's latest album, "the
traditional record-label business model-the one based on controlling access
and distribution- is dead."
Bronfman continues: "But Radiohead's innovation also indicated something
more important: that new models are very much alive. Does this mean we
view the future as a giant tip jar? Not exactly-and I suspect Radiohead
doesn't either, particularly in light of the commercial success In Rainbows
had after the "pay any price" offer ended."
And concluding: "If any band could extend its creativity and spirit
to redefine an entire industry, it would be Radiohead. With a single bold
experiment, it revealed a broad array of possibilities for experiencing
and monetizing music in the future."

start in Florida with the first show of their 2008 tour.
Following on from their posting on the 19th December and the commissioned
report on touring and CO2 generation, we've developed a new section of
the site that gig goers can visit: the most gigantic flying mouth for some
time.
Here you can try out our carbon calculator and compare different transport
methods for getting to and from the venue. The list of tour dates will
give you public transport information where available, and where not, there
may be venue incentives for car sharing. There will also be weekly postings
from Radiohead's production team on how the band has addressed their own
touring carbon footprint and made it easier for fans to reduce theirs.
You can discuss our successes and more importantly, our failings at waste-central,
post up more local travel information where we haven't and make friends
with other people going to your show.

EMI lanza un DVD recopilatorio de Radiohead el 2 de junio que contendrá

ENEMC* presenta "Off Computer" Ensemble Nacional de España de Música Contemporánea
Tras anunciar a su cabeza de cartel de 2008, Radiohead, Daydream presenta
nuevas confirmaciones que subrayan el carácter especial y único
con el que nace la filosofía del festival.
Un cartel en el que los grupos y djs participantes guardan algún
tipo de relación con los protagonistas del evento: ya sea en un
sentido estrictamente musical o más abiertamente conceptual, todos
han influenciado a Radiohead, se han visto influidos por ellos o simplemente
son mutuos admiradores.
Siguiendo este hilo conductor, Daydream también contará
con la actuación en exclusiva el mismo día del festival en
el Auditorio del Parc del Fòrum, del Ensemble Nacional de España
de Música Contemporánea presentando "Off Computer". Con un
repertorio basado en temas de Jonny Greenwood (algunos de ellos de estreno
mundial) y en la revisión en clave de música contemporánea
de canciones del legendario álbum de la banda "OK Computer" la orquesta
de 14 miembros, dirigida por el Director Musical Titular del ENEMC, Sergio
Alapont, ofrecerá un recital de lujo con el que disfrutar de una
manera muy especial de los temas del grupo.
La primera edición del festival nace así como evento
para gourmets musicales y fans del que probablemente sea el mejor grupo
de rock actual: Radiohead. Con ellos como maestros de ceremonias y anfitriones
de excepción, el 12 de junio de 2008 ya aparece marcado en rojo
en todos los calendarios de verano.

2008 The best live band in rock played its greatest concert ever
on June 17th, 2006, at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. "The performances
are brilliant," says Radiohead bassist Colin Greenwood, "because they are
so relaxed." At Bonnaroo, Greenwood, singer Thom Yorke, drummer Phil Selway,
and guitarists Ed O'Brien and Colin's brother Jonny covered every extreme
in their studio catalog, from the violent double-guitar clang of 1995's
The Bends to the haunted electronics of 2000's Kid A. But it was in the
fresh, unfinished songs, later cut for 2007's In Rainbows, that Radiohead
peaked that night. "In 'House of Cards,'" Colin says, "50,000 people threw
their glow sticks in the air to this kick-drum beat and Thom's keening
voice. In the film [of the concert], it looks like Thom walked into a party
where he feels instantly at home." Some new songs sounded flat at that
show, Colin admits. "But isn't that what people want to see - the next
part of the story? They don't want some prepackaged supper-club band."
When Radiohead first came to the U.S. in 1993, the band's performances
- especially Yorke's - borrowed from the live, raw dynamics of the Pixies.
"There were a lot of Johnny Rotten comparisons," Colin says. When the band
became big-room headliners with 1997's OK Computer, Colin says, "those
songs worked well projected in large spaces." It was during Radiohead's
2001 shows, in the wake of Kid A, that Yorke finally settled into his eerie,
distinctive body language: his head bobbing from side to side, as if he
is singing from inside a trance.
"He loves that thing where he changes from a lead singer into another
instrument onstage," says Colin, "in the high notes and repeated chanting
he does."
Radiohead have rehearsed up to seventy songs for their next tour, which
launches in May. The set lists, as always, will change nightly. And there
will be new songs as well, ready or otherwise. "It's not very professional,"
Colin admits. "Sometimes it doesn't work. But every time is unique. It
marks the occasion. I love that."

Full Lollapalooza Lineup After weeks of rumors and speculation, the complete lineup for this
summer's Lollapalooza festival was released this morning, led by the expected
combination of Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails, Rage Against the Machine, Kanye

Fiasco, Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks, Cat Power and more than one hundred

Radiohead's Thom Yorke has guest edited the
Observer Magazine climate change special edition today (March 23).
In it, the 'In Rainbows' musician writes about the importance of acknowledging
climate change, pens the Editor's Letter and interviews London mayor Ken
Livingstone.
In his Editor's Letter Yorke sheds light on his own green conversion,
and why he is a 'climate optimist'.
"I got involved with Friends of the Earth after the UN report on climate
change was published in 2003." declares the musician.
"At first I told Friends of the Earth that I was absolutely the wrong
person to be associated with their campaign.
I've based my life on touring and the rock industry is a high energy-consuming
industry. But they persuaded me that that was exactly why it was a good
idea for me to be involved."
Yorke goes on to explain, "With Radiohead, the most shocking yet obvious
thing we discovered was that the way people travel to our shows has the
biggest impact.
So we now play in venues that are supported by public transport."
In his interview with politician Ken Livingstone, Yorke questions the
Mayor of London about his radical eco vision for the capital.
Further into their dialogue the Radiohead frontman declares his admiration
for the Paris Velib system, where bikes are available for free to be borrowed
by citizens.
Livingstone is planning to bring the idea to London.
Yorke says, "I wanted to talk about that Paris bike thing first, because
I got really excited when I heard about it.
My mates in Paris say it's made a massive difference six months down
the line... you know, such a psychological difference." NME
Thom Yorke backs Glastonbury green credentials Thom Yorke has denied that Radiohead turned down headlining Glastonbury
2008 because they disapproved of the festival's ecological footprint.
As previously reported, the singer apparently criticised the festival's
transport plans.
However, the frontman has explained that his comments in The Sun newspaper
were taken out of context.
In a posting on Radiohead.com, Yorke said: "I mentioned that we were
not playing Glastonbury this year but were doing our own shows in London.
Not because of transport issues but because the festivalgoers at Glastonbury
were more than likely sick of the sight of us. It felt a little early to
be doing it again, we felt as if we had only just played there (the band
previously played in 1994, 1997 and 2003, the latter two being headline
slots).
"Unfortunately, as is the way with such newspapers, my words were taken
out of context and implied we were not playing Glastonbury because there
was no public transport infrastructure. Well, that's bollocks."
The frontman also added that the band may play next year's festival,
saying: "Maybe see you there in 2009? Maybe?"
Yorke then went on to praise the organisers of Glastonbury festival
for their efforts, saying: "Today Emily and Michael [Eavis] sent me though
some stuff about how they are trying to minimise car use as much as they
can with buses and train trips, etc.
"To be honest, it's pretty impressive. They have obviously been busting
a gut about it. I wish more people were thinking as hard as them. Like
the government for example."
Glastonbury takes place between June 27 and 29, fans must register
for Glastonbury's anti touting measures by tomorrow (March 14) to be able
to buy tickets on April 6. (NME)
Radiohead are to release 'Nude' as the second
single from 'In Rainbows'. The song, which was first performed live in a different guise in 1997,
is out on March 31, featuring two exclusive tracks.
The B-side on the 7-inch edition will be '4 Minute Warning', while
'Down Is The New Up' features on the CD format.
Both tracks were taken from 'In Rainbows'/B]' CD2, which only available
with the special edition discbox.
Radiohead are also set to announce plans for fans to remix [B]'Nude',
although details have not yet surfaced on how.

Thom Yorke gets in on The Big Ask campaign Feb 27, 2008
Radiohead's Thom Yorke has put his support behind The Big Ask Europe,
a movement pushing for greater legislation to combat the emissions that
cause climate change.
Yorke presented the European Environment Commissioner Stavros Dimas
with a symbol of The Big Ask today (February 27) at the launch of their
campaign.
The organisation, along with a number of Friends Of The Earth groups,
is asking the governments of 17 European states, including the UK, to commit
to legally binding limits of emissions of materials believed to cause climate
change.
With reference to the importance of the project, Yorke says: "We will
never wake from the nightmare of climate change unless our national governments
and the European Union act. They are the only ones who can put the structures
in place that will help us tackle climate change.
"That is why we are launching The Big Ask in 17 countries across Europe.
By committing to annual cuts in our emissions at a national and European
level we can play our part in tackling climate change, and set an example
for the rest of world to follow."
The Big Ask has previously campaigned to get the UK to implement targets
for cutting carbon dioxide emissions - this law will now come into force
this summer.
However, the organisation is looking for other emissions to be cut

por Juan Gallardo -IndyRock No importa si lo tratamos como una colección de caras
B de In Rainbows, o una mera extensión del mismo. El disco adicional
que acompaña a In Rainbows completa el círculo creativo en
el que se encuentran Radiohead. Me decantaré más por lo de
"extensión" porque para empezar, MK 1 repite etéreamente
la armonía de Videotape, sirviendo de perfecta transición
para este nuevo tramo del viaje. "Down is the New Up" es, tal como fuera
"The Amazing Sounds of Orgy" una de las canciones mas redondas, extrañas,
y maravillosas de la discografía del grupo, e igual que aquella,
nos hace preguntarnos por qué demonios no está en el disco
principal. Destaca asimismo "Go Slowly", que hace honor a su título
y susurra como la brisa, despacio, previsible pero maravillosamente. Con
algún corte demasiado estridente como "Bangers + Mash" la segunda
parte de In Rainbows no nos lleva a ningún rincón inexplorado
pero tiene coherencia de principio a fin, al menos 3 canciones que te tendrán
ocupado durante unas cuantas semanas y ¿quien sabe?, tal vez alguna
de ellas pase a formar parte de tus canciones favoritas del quinteto cuando
puedas mirar atrás con cierta perspectiva. Imprescindible para cualquier
fan de Radiohead.
Jonny Greenwood no ganó el BAFTA Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood missed out on winning a BAFTA at last night's
(February 10) ceremony in London. The guitarist was nominated in the Music
category for his soundtrack for oil business film 'There Will Be Blood'.However
Greenwood was beaten to the film prize by Christopher Gunning for his work
on 'La Vie En Rose'.'There Will Be Blood' did taste success with its leading
man Daniel Day-Lewis picking up the best actor prize.
Joy Division biopic 'Control' was also among the winners with writer
Matt Greenhalgh taking the The Carl Foreman Award for Special Achievement
by a British Director, Writer or Producer In Their First Feature Film.

Radiohead arrasa en su presentación
en directo y gratis de su "In Rainbows" -La policía le obliga a cambiar el sitio de su concierto sorpresa
en Londres por la gran cantidad de fans que se habían concentrado
ante el local Pasa de la tienda Rough Trade East, de Londres a una sala,
93 Feet East.
Desbordaron todas las previsiones. El anuncio de que Radiohead ofrecería
un concierto sorpresa y gratuito para presentar las canciones de su último
álbum, "In Rainbows" en una tienda de Londres la noche del miércoles
16, rompió los esquemas. Cientos de seguidores de la banda se concentraron
ante el establecimiento londinense, Rough Trade Eas, lo que obligó
a la policía a pedir a la banda que buscase otra ubicación
donde pudiesen entrar más personas y no se provocase un incidente
contra el orden público. Al final, con dos horas de retraso, el
concierto se hizo en el 93 Feet East, también un local con
escasa capacidad, anque mayora que la planta de la tienda donde se había
previsto.
El concierto, que se pudo ver a traves de radiohead.tv, fue lo prometido,
"In Rainbows" al completo y en su orden, además de temas de siempre

uno en UK Una
vez más el grupo británico Radiohead lo ha conseguido. Durante
la pasada semana se ha situado en el número uno de las listas de
ventas en UK con su álbum 'In Rainbows'. Una posición que
resulta especialmene importante y significativa si se tiene en cuenta que
la banda de Thom Yorke protagonizó toda una revolución en
la industria al permitir la descarga en internet, en su web oficial, del
disco por el precio que cada usuario quisiese pagar, incluso de forma gratuita,
y mucho antes de que el disco saliese a la venta de forma física.
ahora, que el disco ya está en forma física, la descarga
no ha influido negativamente en las ventas y el disco consigue alzarse
a lo más alto del top británico, donde ha competido con los
albumes de Take That y Leona Lewis. 'In Rainbows' podía encargarse
para su compra en la web de Radiohead, además de descargarse, en
un formato especial, con artwork, extras y una presentación muy
especial, además de un previo alto, 40 libras. Curiosamente ni el
precio ni la descarga en internet ha influido negativamente para el éxito,
lo que demuestra que sólo es cuestión de alta calidad y que
las descargas no rompen el mercado, si se saben utilizar sus recursos.
El 62% de las descargas que se han hecho fueron sin pagar nada, mientras
que entre los que sí pagaron la media está en 5 euros (especialmente
el público norteamericano). El método puesto en práctica
por Radiohead (Descargate la múscia y paga lo que creas oportuno
por ella) ha puesto en jaque a los sistemas tradicionales de ventas de
música. El alto índice de personas que se han descargado
el disco sin pagar nada se debe, en parte, a que muchos usuarios se encontraron
con que el sistema de la web de Radiohead no les aceptaba su tarjeta de
crédito.

Radiohead plays Roskilde Festival '08 After 11 years an audience and critic favourite returns to Roskilde.
Many people still remember Radiohead's last performance at Roskilde
Festival. The year was 1997, and OK Computer had just been released. This
frightening and beautiful portrait of modern life has since been hailed
as one of the best albums ever by leading music critics.
Eleven years later we present Radiohead again - and the band still
sets the agenda. This time they have received extra attention by distributing
their latest album In Rainbows directly on the Internet and not through
a record label - an unprecedented manoeuvre from a band of their size.
All of a sudden, you could read about the Oxford quintet's rainbow album,

A big audience request
The attention surrounding Radiohead is still enormous. The band was

profundidad el hecho histórico que rodea al lanzamiento de este
disco, porque no quiero que eso ensombrezca lo que realmente nos interesa,
solo mencionar que la descarga lleva menos de un minuto, con millones de
personas de todo el planeta descargando al mismo tiempo, no sé si
estoy soñando con el siglo 22, pero que alguien me lo explique,
y tampoco me molestaría que la banda diera datos sobre el número
de descargas.
En greenplastic.com hacen un
comentario sobre "In Rainbows", el último disco de Radiohead, sobre
el que cuesta resistir la tentación de estar de acuerdo: "posiblemente
el mejor disco que Radiohead ha hecho jamás" Pues sí, posiblemente.
Pero lo que para mí trasciende posibilidades es que estamos ante
el mejor disco de Radiohead desde OK Computer, de eso no tengo ninguna
duda. Uno de los secretos de este disco es que, a diferencia de su anterior
entrega, el genial "Hail to the Thief", ni se lo han quitado de en medio
en pocas semanas ni se han sometido a los limites que el directo ofrecía
a sus nuevas canciones, sin llegar por ello a los maravillosos excesos
de Kid A o Amensiac. Muchas de las canciones exprimen hasta el limite del
entendimiento humano las posibilidades que no supieron aprovechar del todo
en algunas canciones de "Hail to the Thief" Por ejemplo, el riff de "Body
Snatchers" debe mucho a "Myxomatosis", pero la melodía de Thom Yorke
está más cercana a aquellas dos gloriosas caras b de tiempos
del "OK Computer": "Palo Alto" y "Fog", con desarrollos que suenan a ecos
de "National Anthem". "15 steps", que abre el disco la misma genialidad
de "Airbag" y "Everything in its Right Place" nos devuelve al Thom de "Idiotheque"
pero con una melodía mucho más marcada, esta es una canción
que casi podrías tararear. Otra muestra de lo en serio que la banda
se ha tomado "In Rainbows" es la ya clásica "Nude" oficialmente
inédita hasta ahora, en la que han cuidado la producción
con una delicadeza sublime y se han atrevido a experimentar cuidadosamente
para no hacer daño a la melodía, nada se pierde, al contrario,
con un bajo de Collin Greenwood tan hipnótico como el de "How to
Dissappear.". Thom explota sus coros sin los complejos que le advertimos
en la versión definitiva de "I Will" La también conocida
"Arpegii" nos sorprende con una sección rítmica que, una
vez más, no daña la suavidad de la melodía vocal de
Thom Yorke. "All I want" no apunta maneras pero se salva con un glorioso
desarrollo final y "Faust Arp" con una clara influencia de los Beatles,
es una joya de dos minutos. En toda esta vorágine de obras de arte,
"Reckoner" consigue destacar, siendo lo más parecido a "The
Eraser" el álbum en solitario de Thom Yorke, pero con los colores
añadidos del resto de la banda, Phil golpeando timbales, me tengo
que quitar el sombrero ante los cinco. "House of Cards" es otra maravilla,
en la que respiro una brizna de los U2 mas experimentales (Léase
Zooropa, 1993) "Jigsaw Falling into Place" nos devuelve el nerviosismo
de "Electioneering" y es la canción que va a requerir más
esfuerzo por tu parte, pero crecerá en tu interior, aunque debo
admitir que de momento, es la canción que menos me ha llamado la
atención de todo el disco. "Video Tape" cierra la primera entrega
de "In Rainbows", con una nostalgia que vamos a entender los que a pasamos
de los 30, y unos descompases rítmicos que te pueden resultar fuera
de lugar al principio pero que interiorizarás en 3 o 4 escuchas,
es uno de los mejores broches que han puesto a sus discos, comparable o
superior a "Blow Out" y "Street Spirit"
En general, Thom Yorke canta como cabía esperar de él,
intentando encontrar nuevas texturas sin renunciar a sus clásicos
puntos fuertes, y me cuesta decirlo pero en ocasiones me recuerda al Bono
de Zooropa e incluso al Roland Gift de los Fine Young Cannibals, y no es
una crítica negativa, pero es curioso que le encontremos influencias
a estas alturas cuando apenas se las hemos encontrado antes. El optimismo
que empezamos a intuir en Hail to the Thief se sigue acentuando. La primera
mitad del disco no requiere repeticiones, emoción inmediata, como
aquellas 3 primeras canciones de "OK Computer", luego es un poco más
exigente. Me molestan algunos críticos cuando dicen que Radiohead
se ha reencontrado con la melodía 10 años después,
como si no hubiera melodía "How to Dissappear..", "Pyramid Song",
"2+2=5", "I Will" y muchas más de Kid A, Amnesiac y Hail to the
Thief que parecen depreciarse por segundos. Casi me emociona la inteligencia
estructural que demuestran en muchas canciones, que cuando son demasiado
áridas te sorprenden con un cambio brusco a melodías que
son polvo de estrellas, o canciones melódicas que te pegan una bofetada
inesperada de descompases, cambios de tono. Siento que pierdo 10 años
de edad ante el regreso de las competiciones de distorsión de Jonny
Greenwood y Ed O´Brien, los estribillos combativos, los crescendos.
Me sorprende la coherencia instrumental del disco, me sobrepasa la admiración
ante el hecho de que los cinco de Oxford hayan sido capaces de mantener
la sincronía los unos respecto a los otros en este viaje hacia el
infinito. Los experimentos de Kid A y Amnesiac sonaban a aventuras personales
de Thom Yorke, pero "In Rainbows" es un trabajo en grupo, es Radiohead
al 100%, la mejor banda de rock de los últimos 20 años.

Radiohead rompe los esquemas y crea un antes y después
en el negocio de la música - El sistema de "paga lo que quieras por mi música, tu pones
el precio", ha dejado en fuera de juego a las principales discográficas
del mundo
- En sólo unas horas el servidor de la banda de Thom Yorke se
colapsó al recibir millones de pre-órdenes de su nuevo disco
"In Rainbows"
- EMI, Warner, Sony... temen que cunda el ejemplo y sea el final de
la industria tal y como se conoce.

02-10-07.- El revulsivo ha llegado. La ruptura del sistema tradicional
de venta de música, e incluso el de pago por descarga, ha sido destrozado
de un plumazo. La decisión de la banda británica, Radiohead,
de pasar de compañías y lanzar su séptimo álbum,
"In Rainbows" a través de su web oficial, con la posibilidad de
que se descarge al precio que cada cual quiera pagar por él (incluso
0 libras), es la fórmula que muchos esperaban para imprimir un cambio
radical en el music bussines. No sólo evita el pirateo, ya que si
quieres ser legal puedes permitirte el precio que tu mismo marques, sino
que acaba con la prepotencia de muchas compañías para las
que el creador de música es sólo un eslabón de la
cadena y casi el que menos cobra. Representantes de multinacionales como
Sony y EMI han declarado ya que si "la mejor banda del mundo decide dar
su música a lo que cada cual considere justo, el negocio de la música
tal y como lo conocemos, se ha terminado". No serán posibles las
presiones ni de los medios de comunicación ni de las compañías
a los medios. Los privilegios de los grandes gurús de la difusión
musical se acaban, ya que sólo será el grupo y sus seguidores
quienes podrán imponer sus condiciones.
El sistema ya ha sido un éxito en menos de veinticuatro horas.
La web oficial de la banda, www.radiohead.com, se ha colapsado por las
miles de pre-órdenes de los seguidores del grupo, pero no sólo
para conseguir la música gratis o a buen precio, sino también
para reservar el pack especial del disco que contiene un segundo Cd, libreto,
art work, y extras, y que se vende a 40 libras. Una venta directa que no
controlan las compañías y que hace el propio grupo.
El lanzamiento está logrado, la operación, que puede
considerarse de márketing de alto nivel, tiene una segunda parte,
los directos. Radiohead volverá a poner el cartel de no hay entradas
en todos sus conciertos en la presumible gira que hará la banda
con este nuevo disco. Su nuevo disco no sólo será conocido
por sus seguidores de siempre, sino que la difusión mediática
que ha alcanzado la decisión del paga lo que quieras, ha subido
muy alto el nivel de conocimiento sobre el grupo en todo el mundo.
Radiohead ha dado el paso. Posiblemente lo harán otras muchas
grandes bandas que se aliviarán del peso de sus industrias que les
obligan a vender determinados millones de discos o los echan, que les obligan
a mantener determinados esquemas creativos y cuyos contratos les convierten
más en esclavos que en creadores.
Las pequeñas y medianas bandas de música alternativa
de toda Europa ya hacían algo similiar, con pequeños pagos
por descarga, o incluso con descargas gratis de discos completos, pero
nadie pensó que los grandes del mercado internacional se atreviesen
a hacerlo. Es posible que con esta decisión el siglo XXI haya entrado
por fin.
