Expectación era la que a todos nos llevaba a este personaje
mezcla de ficción y leyenda envuelto en el mito de las oscuras tierras
escandinavas se su natal Noruega. "Smell the rain" es un un giro a su música
y se aleja del sonido atmosferico de álbumes como Stargate
(99), representa un acercamiento a tendencias más actuales y mas
conocidas en una especie de tributo a NIN, Depeche Mode o Skinny Puppy.
Su visita a la ciudad condal no estuvo ajena a los problemas que suscitó
a sus fans con el cambio de sala a última hora y a más de
alguna le hizo llegar al final del show. Vamos a lo que presenciamos esa
noche en medio de la oscuridad del escenario y la intro emerge esta
criatura mezcla de troll y look vampiresco y las orejas en puntan
para dar vida al mito.
Con suaves tono azules se deja ver entre la escasa luz como si
se tratara de Nosferatu o alguien en ese estilo de rostro pálido
mas los pelos al estilo afro.

Uno a uno fueron presentando los temas de "The Smell of the rain".
Van apareciendo así Scark Trek / Parasite god del cual se
puede apreciar la esencia de Mortiis filmado en el valle de la muerte,
"Monolth" con una atmosfera Dark wave o y la ambient Smell the Witch
o las melodías pop de You put ahex on me.
Un show muy breve para la expectación de sus decepcionados
fans cierran una noche confusa y enigmatica de este personaje del mundo
del rock oscuro y sus antiguas raíces como miembro de la banda de
black metal -Emperor.

Envuelto en ese aire de misterio que le caracteriza, Mortiis, excomponente
de Emperor, está considerado como una clara representación
de la creatividad y la expresió artística de la que carecen
muchas otras bandas, y eso queda patente en sus enigmáticas y evocadoras
melodías.
" The Smell of Rain ", su último trabajo, deja entrever ese
universo oscuro y surrealista por el que se mueve, reflejando influencias
de formaciones como Enigma, Skinny Puppy y Nine Inch Nails. Mortiis pone
la voz y crea la música, y nos acerca a ese estado de desolación,
mostrándonos su enigmática personalidad.
MORTIIS HAS THE GRUDGE
Three years of waiting are almost over for Mortiis aficionados worldwide
as the Norwegian legend, now with full band in tow, prepare for the release
of their new opus - 'The Grudge'. The highly anticipated follow up to 2001's
'The Smell Of Rain' is set for release through Earache Records in the UK
and Europe on September 13th 2004 with a US release to follow on September
21st.
'The Grudge' which was recorded at Silvertone Studios in Fredrikstad,
Norway contains ten new tracks with production duties undertaken by Mortiis
and Vegard Blomberg .Lyrically the album sees Mortiis in an angry and reflective
mood as the band deliver a set of highly charged and emotive songs.
The tracklisting for the album is Broken Skin, Way Too Wicked, The Grudge,
Decadent And Desperate, The Worst In Me, Gibber, Twist The Knife, The Loneliest
Thing, Le Petit Cochon Sordide, Asthma (instrumental)
The album will be preceded on August 16th by the release of Mortiis's
first ever single in the UK. 'The Grudge' (single edit) will only be available
for a limited period and comes in two formats with unreleased exclusive
non album material. The CD Digi Pack contains two re-mixed album tracks
whilst the two track limited edition 7" inch vinyl poster bag version
contains 'Decadent & Desperate'. A video for 'The Grudge' was recorded
recently in New York with acclaimed director Charlie Deaux ( System Of
A Down)
"Three years is a long time coming" exclaimed Mortiis recently
when asked about the album, adding that "I think every minute spent had
its purpose and I think people will understand when they hear it.- this
is the best Mortiis has done yet. It took me a year to form the band, then
another year was taken up with rehearsing and touring, while the last was
spent making the album. Then we got the opportunity to do the single,
it was all last minute ,the conditions were insane as we had super strict
deadlines to meet. The remixes for the single are wonderfully bizarre and
way different from the originals."
Mortiis - Mortiis (Vocals, Synths, Programming, Sound Design),
Levi Gawron, (Guitar), Asmund Sveinunggard (Guitar), Leo Troy (Drums) -
are set to team up with fellow Norwegians Susperia for a major European
tour, on a double headline package under the banner of 'The Unlimited
Grudge Tour 2004'. Starting in the UK on 15th September the tour
will run through 19 countries finishing in Belgium on 14th November. (see
full dates below) The tour will be one of the most extensive undertaken
by the band. Commenting on the mammoth undertaking Mortiis said "Fifty
plus dates - if we survive this, we´ll survive anything!!. I can´t
wait to play places where we have never been before like Greece, Bulgaria,
Lithuania. But it´s also exciting to return to a lot of the cities
we've played before, to play the new songs and basically just go apeshit
and get down with the destruction."
