May 17-19, Saint-Brieuc’s Art Rock festival celebrates three decades of artistic daring that generations of festival-goers will remember. From Miles Davis to Blur, from Andy Warhol to Björk, from Philippe Découflé to Royal de Luxe, hundreds of exceptional artists have left their mark on the festival’s history.
Every year during Art Rock festival, Saint-Brieuc opens up to artists from all over the world: musicians, actors, dancers, inventors or mixed-media artists that share the Art Rock spirit and energy.
The festival will take place in the town centre and, from the theatres of the “scène nationale”* to the parking lots, through the museum or abandoned sites, every place will offer itself up to artists and lovers of art and rock.
For its thirtieth anniversary, Art Rock festival is sparing no expense and promises to be rich in undiscovered adventures and treasures.
After a long history of fruitful collaboration, Art Rock festival and La Fura dels Baus are teaming up again. The world-renowned Spanish theatre company prepares a show faithful to its creativity which looks to be one of the highlights of this year’s edition.
The great British choreographer Michael Clark, with his strong pop universe, presents “New Work” and “Come, been and gone” at the Grand Théâtre of Saint-Brieuc with soundtracks by Scritti Politti and David Bowie.
The great sound and visual art inventors Bernard Szajner and Yro transform the Petit Théâtre of La Passerelle into a laboratory for a unique “experiment of the birds” created especially for Art Rock.
As for music, the most promising artists of today and tomorrow share the different stages.
The mysterious Benjamin Biolay and the elegant Lou Doillon will headline the first night on the Grande Scène on May 17th. Also on Friday, the new wave prodigy Lescop and the talented Woodkid, whose album comes out on March 18th, will take the stage.

Saturday 18th May will start off with the Tuareg band Tinariwen.  Followed by: Féfé with his brass instruments and his warmth, Wax Tailor and his electro-soul band The Dusty Rainbow Experience and last but not least, Breakbot live, dance floor knockout accompanied by mind-blowing audiovisual effects.
Agnes Obel will give an exceptional live show at the Grand Théâtre on Sunday 19th May. Sallie Ford, Skip the Use and Sexion d’Assaut will take over the Grand Scène. This last group is currently at the top of the French rap scene. Their records sell tens of thousands of copies and their spectacular shows attract an ever-growing audience. Skip the Use’s recent win for best rock band at the “Victoire de la musique 2013” is proof of its incredible energy on stage.
Art Rock festival welcomes its share of discoveries. Fauve, La Femme, St.Lô, Yan Wagner, Skip&Die and the American band Ume are part of this year’s most anticipated musicians.

Among the festival’s many characteristics is the importance it gives to digital arts. The museum will welcome six international multimedia installations, one of which is an interactive work by Rafael Lozano-Hemmer noticed at the Gaîté Lyrique in Paris.
Finally, the festival promises great food, provided by some of the region’s best chefs all gathered under the name “Rock’n Toques”, amazing music performed by musicians from the Parisian Metro and offers festival goers numerous photography exhibits, video projections and literary meetings to explore.

A Art Rock promises an exceptional festival with plenty of fun, art, music and dancing. Let the festivities begin!
