Biografía
The history of AVATAR, a Metal Progressive band, began in Madrid in the
middle of the 90´s, when Carlos Cerezo, the drummer, joined Luis
Calzada, Antonio Pino, and Miguel A. Atienza, guitarists and keyboarder
respectively, members of a heavy metal band called Galadriel. All of them
were pretty interested in the same kind of music and in bands like Dream
Theater or Symphony X., so they decided to make a personal style of this
music, which is not very popular in the Spanish Metal. They became known
as AVATAR. There was a need of a singer and a bass, so they got in touch
with Miguel Ángel Aguilar, a great experienced bass, and with Alfonso
de Lope, a high-level singer, who reminded us of Ronnie J. Dio or Tony
Martin. After some time, the band was reduced to five because Antonio Pino
joined another important band called ANKHARA. The efforts, hopes, and commitment
were reflected in the first demo, a live concert recorded, as well as in
the second one, both in 1999. But the most important is the first C.D.:
"ESSENCE" that includes 9 themes. Now their dream comes true. AVATAR really
wanted to make this recording work, produced by Jean Michel Colomer, and
mastered by Carlos Creator. Both are important figures in Spanish Heavy
Metal. AVATAR is not just for a selected minority. Since the beginning,
the band's goal has been to share their feelings, for their music, with
all the people who really demand good music. We hope we have obtain this.

Grabación de una primera maqueta de un concierto en la Sala
Ritmo & Compás. Grabación de su primer disco Essence,
en 2001
La historia de AVATAR comienza en Madrid, a mitad
de los ´90, cuando Carlos Cerezo, el batería, conoce a Luis
Calzada (guitarrista), Antonio Pino (guitarrista de Ankara en la actualidad)
y a Miguel Ángel Atienza, teclados, miembros de un grupo heavy llamado
Galadriel.
Todos estaban interesados en hacer el mismo tipo de música inspirada
en grupos como Dream Theater o Symphony X; decidieron juntarse y crear
un estilo musical propio, no muy popular dentro del panorama español;
así nació AVATAR.
Después llegaron Miguel Ángel Aguilar, el bajista y la
excepcional voz de Alfonso de Lope (que recuerda mucho a Ronnie J. Dio
o a Tony Martin).
Luego el grupo se vio reducido a 5 componentes porque Antonio Pino
se incorporó a otra banda: Ankara.
Después empezaron a tocar en salas como Ritmo y Compás,
grabando una demo apovechando una de esas actuaciones en directo.
Y al fín, el sueño se hizo realidad cuando en enero de
2001 se metieron en un estudio a grabar su primer disco titulado Essence.
Este CD incluye 9 temas y está producido por Jean Michel Colomer,
y masterizado por Carlos Creator.
Actualmente han fichado un nuevo bajista, Rafa , que se adapta perfectamente
al estilo del grupo y que participa en la elaboración de nuevos
temas para el siguiente disco.
